ATHERTON, Calif. – Menlo College Golf will be participating and co-hosting the first ever The Geiberger in 2018. The Geiberger will take place at the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course (also host to PGA Tour Career Builder) on April 8-10, 2018. Loyola Marymount University will co-host the inaugural event with Menlo College. As of this moment, the teams participating in The Geiberger will be; Boise State, Santa Clara, California Polytechnic State University, Grand Canyon University, Cal State Northridge, UC Santa Barbara, University of Pacific, and Fresno State.
The Geiberger is named after Menlo College Hall of Fame member Al Geiberger, also known as "Mr. 59." With more than 20 victories on the PGA and Senior Tours, Geiberger was a fixture near the top of leaderboards. Al joined the Senior Tour in 1987, winning three times during his rookie year. Geiberger claimed his first PGA Tour victory in 1962 and has now made it to the winner's circle in four different decades. In the 1996 season, Al was voted the Senior Tour Comeback Player of the Year after notching four top-10 finishes and getting his first victory in almost three years. He may be most well known for firing a 59 in 1977 at the Danny-Thomas Memphis Classic.
