Scott took over the position of head women's soccer coach in June 2010 and was able to lead the Menlo Oaks to a 4th place finish in the Cal Pac Conference in his first season. The 2010 fall season saw the program crown Megan McKee as the Cal Pac Defender of the year as well as Amanda Torres as the Cal Pac Conference Player of the year. The program has enjoyed a great amount of success in the classroom this year with 7 members earning Dean's List awards this fall and a team GPA above 3.0 giving them recognition as an NAIA Scholar Team.
Myers joined the Oaks this past summer having coming from a very strong women's program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. While at Embry-Riddle, Myers helped coach the lady Eagles to two appearances in the NAIA national tournament and a 2009 Sun Conference Championship. Myers was also able to be responsible for the starting goalkeeper for the Eagles earn first team all conference accolades under his direct tutelage.
Prior to Myers' two years at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla., he was a graduate assistant for the women's soccer team at Redlands. Myers was the Bulldogs head goalkeepers and defensive coach. During his two year stint the Bulldogs allowed just 10 goals during conference play. In 2006 the Bulldogs were able to capture the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic regular season Conference title in record setting fashion by becoming the first undefeated team in the history of the conference. Redlands' top goalies earned All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American honors under Myers' care.
"Scott brings a strong but very steady personality to the job that I think will help propel us to the conference championship and beyond," Menlo College Athletic Director Keith Spataro said. "His experience working in small colleges and colleges with distinct majors will be very advantageous in the recruiting process. I look forward to seeing Scott build the women's program into a conference power."
Myers has a very diverse background in coaching having coached ages ranging from 4 - 24 years old in three difference states (Iowa, California and Florida). He was able to lead his U13 boys Heartland Mutiny team to an Iowa state championship in 2005. Myers was also acted at the head coach for the Iowa 93 girl's state team coach for two seasons. He continued his work with the Olympic Develop Program down in Florida as a goalkeeper trainer and evaluator on the state level.
Besides coaching club, Myers spent 7 years as a middle school and high school coach within the Cedar Rapids Public School System. During that time Myers also spent time as a high school Biology teacher at Cedar Rapids Washington.
"I am extremely excited for this great opportunity to join the family at Menlo College," said Myers. "Keith (Spataro) has a great passion for this program and I am excited to become part of his mission for the future of Menlo Athletics. My goal is to run a soccer program that mirrors the success of the academic programs on campus."
Myers attained his undergraduate degree in Science from Coe in 2001 and earned his Master's degree in Higher Education from Redlands in 2008. He has a USSF National C License, NSCAA Premier diploma as well as NSCAA Goalkeeping Diplomas at Levels I-III.
Short Term Goals - Having the spring season to figure out what our team's strengths and weaknesses are will be pertinent to our success next fall. I will spend time evaluating the needs of our program and creating competitive situations that help maximize our efforts while we are on the pitch. I will be looking to lead our program into a new direction and place more focus on the growth of the team as a whole not just individually. Simultaneously, I will be making every effort to attract prospective students who can fit into our culture and be an impact on our future success.
Long Term Goals - Menlo College athletic department has seen a lot of success and attracts student athletes who work hard and want to compete at the highest level. It is my goal to help the women's soccer team continue their tradition of success and be a contender for the Cal Pac conference title on a yearly basis. The goal for this program is to also be a consistent competitor at the national level.
