Joey Martinez - Head Coach - 2nd Season
Head Coach
Second-year head coach Joey Martinez continues to lead the vaunted Oaks men's wrestling program into a new era for the 2010-11 season. Martinez served as an assistant coach for four seasons at his alma mater prior to taking over for the 2009-10 season. In year one under Martinez, two Oaks grapplers earned NAIA All-American recognition while one earned a spot on the NWCA/NAIA All-Academic Team.
Martinez was a standout athlete in his time at Menlo, becoming a two-time NAIA All-American and two-time Menlo College Team MVP. Prior to Menlo, Martinez wrestled for Skyline Junior College under the tutelage of Keith Spataro, who stepped down as Menlo's head coach after nine years in charge of the Menlo program he began. While at Skyline, Martinez was a two-time Junior College State Champion and went 61-0 to establish a new COA state record. He currently holds numerous records at both Skyline College and Menlo College.
Martinez graduated from Menlo College in 2003 with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Psychology. A native of Modesto, Martinez resides in Redwood City, Calif.
