Jon Surface
Head Coach - 1st Season
Jon Surface was promoted to head coach of the men's basketball program in May 2010. Surface had been an assistant coach for the past four seasons, as well as the Oaks assistant athletic trainer for the past six. He inherits a team that went 12-16 last season and lost in the California Pacific Conference Tournament Championship Game. The Oaks - which lost seven games by two points or less during the 2009-10 season - return 11-of-12 players for next season.

Prior to arriving at Menlo, Surface spent time as an athletic trainer with the San Francisco 49ers, Stanford University, and Davis High School. During his time as assistant coach he has been instrumental in the development of Menlo's post players. The Oaks have outrebounded opponents in three of the four seasons during which Surface has been on the sidelines.

Surface graduated from UC Davis in 1998 after helping the Aggies men's basketball team win the NCAA Div. II National Championship. He later coached under UC Davis teammate Brandon Laird at Menlo, who held the position after another Aggies teammate, Kevin Nosek, led the Oaks.

Assistant Coach - 3rd Season
Cody Christensen enters his third season as an assistant on the Oaks coaching staff. A former Menlo player, Cody had a standout career for the Oaks before graduating in 2008.

As a senior, Cody had a breakout season  in helping the Oaks win the California Pacific Conference and earn a berth in the 2008 NAIA Div. II National Championship in Point Lookout, Mo. He finished 63-for-141 from 3-point range on the season, which was good for a 44.7 shooting percentage from long distance. Those numbers were good enough for Cody to currently rank fourth in 3-point field goals, fifth in 3-point attempts, and ninth in 3-point percentage in a single season. He also ranks second in 3-point percentage (43.4), seventh in 3-point field goals (99), and 10th in 3-point attempts (228) for his career despite playing only two seasons at Menlo.

A Newcastle, Calif. native, Cody attended Monterey Peninsula College for two seasons before transferring to Menlo.
