Russ Newnan (1989-1993) is one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes in Menlo history. Newnan set numerous school records by the time he graduated including career (62.7) and single-season (73.0) field goal percentage in basketball, and career batting average (.385) in baseball. He was two-time MVP of the basketball team while also earning baseball's MVP award.

During the 1990-91 basketball season, Newnan led the NCAA in field goal percentage and currently ranks sixth in NCAA Div. III history in single-season field goal percentage and is 14th in all divisions. A fixture in the Oaks record books, Newnan is second on the career scoring list for basketball, first in free throws attempted and made, and third in points per game and field goals.

Newnan graduated cum laude and married his wife Kelli, who also attended Menlo, in 1996. He has worked as a lumber salesman for over 14 years and co-owns The Hang Up Storage Solutions with Kelli. In his spare time Russ volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is an accomplished ASA Men's Fast Pitch softball player.
