Matt Allison
Assistant Coach
2nd Season

Continuing with the Menlo College baseball program this season is second-year assistant coach Matt Allison.

 

Allison, who is responsible for the outfielders, hitters, and third base coaching duties for the Oaks, is a veteran college coach, most recently serving as the head baseball coach at NCAA Div. III Willamette University in Salem, Ore. from 2003-08. Prior to Willamette, Allison served on the staff at the University of California, working with the offense and coaching first base.
 

Prior to Cal, Allison was the associate head baseball coach at Georgetown University from 1999-02. He also has had experience as an assistant coach at SUNY-Cortland (1987-92), Cornell University (1992-96) and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo (1996-97). Allison has been involved in coaching summer league baseball as well, performing the assistant coaching duties for the Matsu Miners of the Alaska League in 1999 and 2000, and managing the St. Cloud Riverbats (Minn.) of the Northwoods League in the summer of 2002.

 

Besides his involvement in baseball, Allison is a professor in both economics and english. After earning his undergraduate degree in economics from University of California-Riverside in 1982, he went on to earn a Master's degree in English and Textual Studies from Syracuse in 1990, and a Master's degree in Economics from the New School for Social Research in New York City in 1998.

 

Allison has been a lecturer in macroeconomics at Georgetown and a professor in the economics department at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, as well as teaching english at Syracuse, Tompkins-Cortland Community College, SUNY-Cortland, Elmira College and Cuesta College. He currently is an adjunct professor of English at both Menlo College and Gavilan College.

 

He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in kinesiology from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.
 
Allison, 50, was an outfielder at the College of the Sequoias before transferring to Sonoma State to finish his college baseball career. He resides in both San Luis Obispo and Redwood City.
