Aaron Gillespie joined the Menlo College athletic department as the school’s Sports Information Director in January, 2013.
Gillespie serves as the primary media contact for the department’s 15 NAIA varsity sports programs. Additionally, he is responsible for writing all department press releases, game recaps, feature stories, producing game day programs, serving as the play-by-play voice for home contests, producing department webcasts, and maintaining the official website of Oaks athletics, www.menloathletics.com, and the department’s official social media channels.
Prior to joining Menlo College, Gillespie served as a Sales Consultant for the Stanford University Athletic department, where he generated new revenue streams through the sale of season and partial ticket packages.
His passion for the world of sports information was cultivated during his time as a student at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Sport Management in 2010. During that time, he spent three summers as a sports communications intern for the Lima Locos baseball team of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League where he served as the primary play-by-play voice and official scorer of all home contests. Concurrently, Gillespie served as an intern for the Times Bulletin Newspaper in his hometown of Van Wert, Ohio where he wrote feature news stories and covered local sporting events.
In his senior year at BGSU, Aaron made the cross-country trek to Las Vegas, Nevada to serve as a public relations intern for the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) and the now defunct World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). While with the organization, he wrote press releases to promote upcoming pay-per-view events, coordinated fighter appearances, autograph sessions and media commitments, and provided support at press conferences and live events.
A native of Van Wert, Ohio, he currently resides in San Francisco, California with his wife, Kristen.
